Gigs at Wineries, Orchards, Breweries, Distilleries, Cideries
MN and Midwest locations and the good and bad of performing at these.
I have had the fortunate experiences of performing solo and as up to a 9-piece band at varied Minnesota and Indiana wineries, breweries, orchards etc. The solo thing has been a good paying afternoon thing, great for sleeping in and having your evening to either gig again or chill. The tribute 9-piece show was in a big pavilion, 300 people, good pay and fabulous experience. These are of course spring, summer, fall opportunities, and the budgets and their pay vary. These venues can do huge volumes of people so they’re worth contacting to book as whatever size act. I enjoyed those shows so much I spent a couple of days searching and creating a list of all these venues for to email blast my promo material. Some responded that they do not have entertainment, but I did get some gigs out of it.
The GOOD and the BAD
The good thing is, you get to perform for a wider variety of age groups, families etc. which can be charming - When doing the solo background to enjoying the day, and people drinking. But the bad thing is, sometimes not all people pay attention and kids can be screaming and running around. Oh well, goes with that territory. Doing the band show thing. If it’s a ticketed show, it can be a special unique event, warm… nice people, cool environments. I’ve found not all consistently host entertainment, so I assume these will be scattered fill in gigs, not many consistent dates. BUT, if I search for more of these venues in more states, I think I could fill in more tour dates between the other types of shows I book. I did a show solo with backing tracks in northern Florida, so fun, outdoor, under a huge open sided kind of log cabin pavilion, a Roy Orbison tribute show, and 600 people showed up. Perfect weather, and they had a free plug in camp site for my van. I’ll share my MN email list for ya here.
